Class 3

Welcome to our fabulous class for Year 3 and 4 pupils!

A bit about us…

Class 3 is made up of year 3 and year 4 pupils, who are transitioning into KS2. Mr Vincent is the class teacher and he is supported by Mrs Featherstone.

In Class 3, we do a lot of fun activities throughout the year in all of our lessons, which you will see on our regularly updated Class Dojo Story. This is also an important time for year 4 children who complete the multiplication check, to assess their recall of multiplication tables to 12. In years 3 and 4 we spend plenty of time preparing children for this assessment.

As children move into KS2, they develop their confidence and independence. Although we work extremely hard, we have a lot of fun too with our exciting, engaging curriculum. To find out more about our curriculum, you can view our Long Term plans below or read the whole-school curriculum offer by clicking here.

Things you should know:

*Each child is given a reading book to read at home. Children will be listened to reading during shared reading sessions, as well as by different adults in school. Reading at home is expected and encouraged; we aim for at least 3 times a week as this will really help your children’s progress.

*Your child will bring home ten spellings each week to learn for a spelling test on Friday.

*One of our key focuses in numeracy is times tables, ensuring children are ready for the multiplication check in year 4. Every child, from Year 2 onwards, is expected to complete 20 minutes of multiplication practise each week on the  TTRockstars app.

What have Class Three been up to?

September 2026

It was great to see everyone back in class after the 6 week holidays. Everyone came back to school after the 6 week holidays refreshed and recharged ready for the new school year. We flew through September, starting our new topics and working hard during the first 4 weeks, and we were into October before we even knew it. Everyone has shown a fantastic attitude and across all of our subjects. We began our work in Place Value in Maths, started reading Tuesday (by David Wiesner) in English, had a go at some gestural drawing in Art which was linked to our History topic of the Stone Age. IN PE we’ve been creating our own gymnastic routines, while in Geography we’ve been revising our knowledge of the UK. In Science, we have started looking at Forces and Magnets.

In Maths we started by looking at place value and the value of different digits in different numbers up to 5 digits. We have also done a lot of number line work, exploring estimation, intervals, comparing and ordering numbers and rounding to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000.

In History, we started our topic exploring the Stone Age. We began by ordering events from the Stone Age by creating our own timelines in the classroom.

In PESSPA, we’ve been looking at gymnastics and building towards creating own own routines. We have explored jumps, rolls and different ways to travel while moving on different apparatus.

As part of our Art topic on gestural drawings, we practised drawing with ‘big’ gestures and drawing with ‘small’ gestures. We also explored the work of Laura McKendry, and produced a short presentation. We then worked with charcoal to create cave wall style effects using mark making.
