Welcome to Sunnybrow Primary School’s Early Years Unit!
A bit about us…
We are a small Early Years provision, made up of Nursery and Reception children. Our class teacher is Mrs Elamin. We are supported by Mrs Black, Ms Kitching and Miss Coleman.
In Nursery and Reception, we have fun exploring, investigating and learning new skills through a variety of play-based activities. Our broad and balanced curriculum provides opportunities for first hand experiences which enthuse, excite and inspire all children in all areas of learning. While we do follow topics, activities are carefully planned in response to the children’s own interests as we believe that this is the most effective way to stimulate and support children’s own natural curiosity whilst developing key skills and knowledge. Our outdoor space is open daily as free-flow learning, with a different set of experiences provided to the indoor classroom to ensure that we are developing the whole-child, evoking the senses and appealing to all learning styles through the natural environment.

Food and Drinks
Every child has access to fresh drinking water, which is freely available throughout the school day and younger children are supported with accessing this at regular intervals throughout the day.
Breakfast is provided for all children when they first come in. This consists of a drink of milk or water, fresh fruit and either toast, crumpet or bagel. This is a sociable event and children sit at the table with a member of staff and have a chat and catch-up.
Parents have the option to pay for a mid-morning tuck-shop snack. This is 20p per day and is usually a rice cake, plain biscuit, raisins, bread stick or a yoghurt. Every child is offered a piece of fruit.
School lunches are for free for children in Reception. Our lunches are provided by Chartwells and are balanced, nutritious and delicious! Children in Nursery can also have a school lunch. These cost £3.70 per day. Children can bring a packed lunch, but it must follow our school food policy guidelines. Food policy
Learning and Supporting at home
We follow the Little Wandle synthetics programme in Nursery, Reception and Year 1. In Nursery, this starts with developing early phonological awareness such as rhythm and rhyme, before moving on to learning sounds and reading and spelling words in Reception and Year 1.
